If there’s one thing doctors, home health workers,
physical therapists and nurses all agree, is that grab bars are the first line
of defense against unexpected falls and are very important in maintaining
optimal physical health for the elderly or those with disabilities.
When it comes to the bathroom, there are at least
three important locations where grab bars are most effective preventing falls:
At the entrance to the shower stall (especially in
a bathtub since here, the risk of falls increases). This shower bars should be
12 – 18 inches in length and should be placed vertically at the entrance to
help with entering and exiting.
Beside the toilet seat, to help with transitioning
from sitting to standing and vice versa. This bar can be used in conjunction
with a 3 in 1 commode for those with more serious mobility issues.
A diagonally placed bar against the back wall of
the shower stall to assist with the bathing process.
